In the 2 years since we launched the Carbon Winches CW-12k 12,000lb and CW-95P 9500lb 4wd winches, we get asked the same few questions over and over again. So to save you guys a phone call or email (and in the interests of our sanity!), here are the top 7 questions we get on a near-daily basis.

 

  1. "Will the Carbon Winches 12,000lb or 9500lb winches fit my ARB/TJM/Ironman/Uneek/Rival etc. bullbar?"

    If your bulbar is winch compatible then there's a 99.5% chance it will fit as designed. We've only come across 1 bar so far(factory Nissan GU Patrol winch bar) where the winch needs to be run upside down to align with the fairlead cutout.
    The Carbon CW-95P and CW-12k winches have the same 10’’ x 4.5’’ (254mm x 114.3mm) Warn mounting bolt pattern as most low mount winches and fits any bar designed to take a Warn or other brands of low mount winch.
     
  2. "My Wireless remote doesn't work, can I have a new one or new batteries?"

    The answer to this one is usually in the form of a question, "have you turned it on?" to which the answer is usually "No", "didn't know I had to" or "where is the switch?" etc. 
    The instructions on how to use of the remote are embossed into the back of the remote housing and would be surprised how many people tell us they changed the batteries(LR23A designed to last years) but didn't notice the instructions even after taking out the screw positioned just above them! 
    But in case you too missed them, turning on the remote is as easy as holding down both the IN and OUT buttons for 2 seconds until the red LED lights up. To turn off its the same process, or if you don't press a button for 90 seconds it will turn itself off to save battery life and prevent accidental operation of your winch.
     
  3. "Where is the receiver for the wireless, it wasn't in the box?"

    Unlike some other brands of winches, the Carbon Winches wireless receiver is pre-wired into the control/solenoid box and is ready to go as soon as the remote unit is switched on(see above). Nothing to plug in nothing to lose or hunt for in your draws, nothing to bounce out of the socket on corrugations if you forget to unplug it after a recovery.
     
  4. Which one should I buy/will suit my car?

    This question is a little more difficult o answer quickly as to give the most accurate advice we need to know many things, such as: What 4wd do you have, what accesories, estimated weight of accessories, do you tow a trailer offroad or think you may need to recover while towing, the list goes on.....
    But in short, if you are in doubt about total weights and have a current model 4wd then you should probably go with the CW-12k 12,000lb. Yes, the gear ratio makes it a bit slower but in most cases, a slow recovery is a safe recovery as it gives you a little more time to asses the situation and reacts to any problems that may arise. The 12,000lb also gives you 2500lb(1134kg) more pulling power to recover today's heavier from the factory or overloaded 4wds, so you're less likely to need to do a double line pull using a snatch/pulley block, which actually makes the recovery faster.

  5. "Can I fit a winch without a bullbar?"

    The answer to this used to be pretty much always no, but now it depends on your vehicle type as we offer a range of "in bumper" winch cradles, designed to fit inside your factory bumper. This negates the need for a big heavy bull bar that takes a minimum of 50kg off your available load and could spoil the looks of the 4wd if you're into that sort of thing.....
    Cradles are available with and without a Carbon winch for:
    Nissan D22 Navara,
    Nissan GU Patrol,
    Toyota Vigo/KUN26 Hilux,
    Ford PX/PX2 Ranger 
     
  6. I've just been looking at your 12,000lb/9500lb Carbon Winch on your website, how much is it?

    $949 plus shipping as it says on the website......
